40 Days Over DC - MY Response

Image from 40daysoverdc.com
I've been following this event on several other blogs the past few days, and I have to admit such a thing disturbs me greatly. I've never seen such a powerful, hateful movement be organized in my lifetime, or at least one that was directed straight at my beliefs. But now, that very thing comes in the form of 40 Days over D.C.

The purpose of this siege is to change the atmosphere over the city of Washington D.C. through our worship, preparing the way for our legislators to function on a different playing field as we release 40 days of light over the city.

Now, I've been reading a lot of good ideas of response for this, from erecting alters to Columbia to performing rememberance rituals for her at the capital, but as an Asatruar living in Arkansas, these seem like unlikely options. So instead, I plan to do the following:

On October 28th, it'll be Arkansas' turn to take the "point position" in their prayers. That morning, I play to hold a small blot for the gods and goddesses of the Aesir and Vanir, and ask for their protection from the hatred this group wishes to spread across my state. Then, I plan on making a trip to the capital, in order to meet the members of their "prayer team", and try to learn more about their movement. Upon returning, I will host a closing ritual, again asking for the gods to help us get through this time of great hatred.

So what is everyone else's ideas about this?
